Line
Line is one of the most essential elements in design, capable of bringing structure, energy, and direction to a composition. It’s more than just a mark connecting two points—lines define spaces, create rhythms, and guide the viewer’s eye. They are fundamental to both digital and print design, providing a visual framework that supports and enhances content.
Lines come in a wide range of forms and functions. Horizontal lines suggest calmness and stability; vertical lines convey strength and growth; diagonal lines evoke action and movement; and curved lines introduce a sense of fluidity and elegance. The characteristics of a line—whether thick or thin, sharp or soft, continuous or broken—determine its impact and how it communicates with the audience.
In digital design, lines play a crucial role in establishing structure and hierarchy. They appear in navigation menus, layout grids, underlines, dividers, and scroll bars, subtly organizing content and guiding user interaction.
